    Description
A  Maling chintz pitcher/jug made for Ringtons Tea Co. of Newcastle-on-Tyne. The pitcher is 8 1/2" tall to the highest point of the lip. The body is octagonal in shape and measures 5 1/4" across. This is a very substantial pitcher in that it is quite thickly potted and weighs in at 2lbs 9oz.  The all over pattern consists of various flower types on a pale blue mottled  ground. The pitcher is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.
In c1928 C.T. Maling started making various pottery items such as tea caddies, jugs & teapots for Ringtons. This association lasted until 1962 when Maling lost the Ringtons contract and the factory closed in 1963. In the early years Ringtons would sell the items door to door via their delivery vans. I believe that Maling commenced production of the chintz ware in c1935 and it probably carried through to the 1950's. The mark on the base was in use in the 1930's.
