Description
Civil War Era Union Army Model 1833 Leather Socket for Sharps Carbines - Original - Very Nice ConditionUp for Auction is a Civil War Era Union Army Model 1833 Leather Socket for Sharps and other Cavarly Carbines. This socket was attached to the saddle strap and would secure the barrel of the carbine when not being used. This prevented the carbine from bouncing around when riding. This example is in Nice condition. No rips or tears in the leather, some crazing & surface cracking of the leather strap. It is still soft and supple. There are no markings on the socket.
These were used with the Sharps, Springfield Trapdoor and Krag Carbines
These were used by the US Cavalry from the mid-1830's up through the late 1880's. No Civil War or Indian War Collection is complete without one.
This is a nice representative example that has ages well over it's 150+ year life.
